HMS is committed to promoting unfettered access to and dissemination of research findings to advance science while ensuring adherence to U.S. laws and regulations pertaining to the export of items, services, and technology. HMS investigators engage in a broad range of innovative research in the U.S. and abroad, including the sharing and development of products, goods, hardware, software, or materials, as well as research involving technology that may be subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations.

HMS faculty and staff should contact the HMS Research Security Team within The Office of Research Administration (ORA) at to request a determination if any HMS research, travel, collaborations, shipments or hand-carry of goods, data and services are subject to export controls. The HMS Research Security Team also reviews foreign persons and entities working at or with Harvard for Federal restrictions related to conducting business (Restricted Party Screenings).

Any questions from members of the HMS community about the Harvard Export Control Compliance Policy Statement, Export Control Laws and Requirements and Restricted Party Screening obligations should be directed to the HMS Research Security Team.
