The importance of R3 principles to the success, efficient execution, and long-term value of biomedical research is recognized by Harvard Medical School (HMS) as well as by the national and global research community. The HMS R3 Effort engages with the broader HMS community, including its clinical affiliates and research institutions, e.g., Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), Boston Children's Hospital (BCH), Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), Mass General Brigham (MGB).

History of the HMS R3 Effort
Driven by our belief in the importance of exploration and understanding of research rigor, reproducibility and responsibility (R3) principles in our community, organized support for R3 efforts at HMS began with the establishment of an R3 Working Group (R3WG) in early 2019. The R3 Working Group was led jointly by the Office for Academic and Research Integrity and the Office of Research Operations and Global Programs, and included representation from Graduate Education, the Office of Research Administration, HMS Research Computing, the Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, and the Countway Library. Based on the foundations laid by the R3WG, in late 2019 a Faculty Advisory Committee was convened. Together, this R3WG/Faculty Advisory team was awarded a Dean’s Innovation Award in Administrative Efficiencies in early 2020 to support the development of the HMS R3 Effort, which included the recruitment of an R3 Curriculum Fellow in partnership with the HMS Curriculum Fellows Program. Since then, the R3 Effort has moved toward becoming a faculty-led sustainable entity and is working to identify opportunities to optimally support R3 at our institution.
